Belonging
Create spaces where young people can connect without needing to explain or simplify who they are.
We envision a California where every young person can feel at home without leaving any part of themselves behind.

NewRoots Collective is a nonprofit initiative centered on immigrant and first-generation children and teens in Los Angeles and across California. Our mission is to help young people build belonging, celebrate heritage, and grow toward a future they can shape. The vision begins with a simple belief: cultural identity is a source of possibility.
Create spaces where young people can connect without needing to explain or simplify who they are.
Honor family histories, languages, and traditions while leaving room for identities to evolve.
Encourage curiosity, self-expression, and practical next steps toward education, work, and community life.
Families and young people bring expertise about their own lives. Our approach makes room for listening, choice, and shared learning. Our approach grows through listening, community input, and thoughtful collaboration.
We aim to make participation understandable, respect each family’s language and cultural identity, and invite young people into decisions about their own expression. We do not treat immigration history as a story anyone owes us.
As opportunities develop, clear information about schedules, supervision, costs, accessibility, consent, and responsibilities should come before participation. Questions and community feedback help turn these commitments into practical decisions.
