Your roots are a creative superpower.
Art, language, food memories, and family stories become starting points for creative exploration. Heritage Lab invites young people to define culture for themselves, including the parts they are still discovering.

Bring your whole story.
What this can look like
Make a visual family recipe, design a multilingual zine, or build a collage of meaningful objects. No artistic experience or fluency in a heritage language is required.
Who it is designed for
Children and teens who want to explore identity through making, listening, and sharing.
Your comfort comes first
You do not need to share a personal story to take part in a creative activity. You can listen, pass, ask for a pause, or choose another way to contribute. Families should ask about consent, supervision, accommodations, and group expectations before joining.
Before you join
Contact NewRoots to discuss current availability, age suitability, schedules, costs, and participation requirements. We will help you understand the next steps and find the right fit for your family.
